Meet The Princess Of Dark Who Is Redefining The Meaning Of Attraction

This colour shirt doesn’t go with your dark complexion. Have you tried the new instant white cream? It’ll help you to lighten your skin tone. You can look good, but your dark complexion ruins everything

This is how people born with dark skin are treated in our society. Being born in a racist society, we all are familiar with these day-to-day used lines. We judge people by their skin tone and other such elements. We all love to wear black, love the colour black but hate and discriminate people of black or dark skin tone. How ironic!

Our media and film industry boosts the concept of ‘Beauty is White.’ We all are forced to believe that only people of fair skin tone can be beautiful and have the right to be confident. Especially when you are a girl, you cannot be perfect till you have white skin. But hey gals! There is someone who is churning out the entire concept of ‘White is Beautiful,’ and she is ‘The Queen of Dark.’

Dark is beautiful

Nyakim Gatwech has become a new internet sensation. This 24-year old South Sudanese model is shattering conventional notions of being beautiful. What makes her stand out in the crowd is her love for her charcoal black skin tone. She believes that one should love themselves the way God has created them

Queen of Dark

The black skin is not a badge of shame but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness -Marcus Garvey

Marcus Garvey was a proponent of black nationalism in Jamaica and especially in the USA. And it seems like Nyakim ultimately stands with his words.

Her images have gone viral on the internet. Her fans have crowned her with the title of ‘Queen of Dark’. And without any doubt, she is worth it!

She is beautiful

Who can say she is not beautiful? This picture is telling what words can’t. She is gorgeous

Be your own love

People can’t tell you who you are. Love yourself! Love yourself as God has created you. This society will tell you thousands of times that you are not perfect, be confident and show them that you are your perfect queen

Criticism can’t stop me

To go against the prevailing notions is not everyone’s cup of tea. Those who do it face a lot of discrimination and criticism. But this melanin-blessed girl is set out to tell everyone that one should love the way they are. Dark or light, skin tone defines nothing.
# Harbinger of change
Leading pop singer Madonna had once remarked:
No matter what you did
No matter where you have come from
You can always change, become a better version of yourself.
But Nyakim Gatwech loves the way she is

Mesmerising beauty

Who says beauty has boundaries? Or beauty is defined by your complexion? Nyakim’s love for her moonshine black skin is an answer to the stereotypical thinking which considers only white as beautiful

She has 127k+ followers on Instagram, and her aim is to promote self-positivity and body acceptance among people

#Who says I am not perfect?

queenkim_nyakim: “So I got a snap couples days ago from my amazing followers lol this is what it said “do you know if someone shoot you the bullet will come back and ask for a flashlight” I swear that made my day I literally laugh out loud. And my respond was “I guess I’m too damm beautiful I can’t never get shot even if someone try to lol, because by the time the bullet goes back to ask for flashlight I’ll be gone lol.”

Love yourself as you are

In this era where people go to all lengths to bleach their skin for lighter complexion, this woman is creating a new wind of positivity and self-love. To express her feelings, she has posted this poem in one of her Instagram posts-
My black is flawless
I’ve never been this proud before
My skin never felt so good
Was I not used to it?
I can’t remember when I loved this shade so much
My colour is dark and lovely.
It sings with a rhythmic melody of beauty.
My black is loud
It yelled at this pale-faced lady the other day
She tried to demean my black
And just as quickly as she did
My black screamed back.
My skin roared with elegance
Reminding you, it is not afraid anymore
My black is loved
I rubbed it down tenderly today
Making sure to touch every inch.
Ever so gently it glistened and radiated
My black shimmers and still catches attention.
It’s been kissed and hugged
Still selfishly wants more
My black isn’t always easy
But I am my black, and my black is me.

She is not just fighting for her own choice and identity but filling thousands of minds with positive vibes. She is telling the world that what is being told is not always right and if it is not then, stand up, rise, and shine

Why are you so dark .?

She has many weird experiences of how people have treated her and asked her silly questions just because of her dark complexion. She has shared many of the experiences on her Instagram account.

Once she wrote, ”Some people stay Snapping me asking me why am I so dark? How on earth they expect me to answer that question? Beside the fact that I’m bless with melanin and I love all this darkness.”

Friends love

Life is a canvas and friends fill colours in it. This snap is from one of her photoshoots with her model friend Nyajima Lok. The picture shows how beautiful life is when you are with your buddies

Bold and Beautiful

Nyakim shared one of her conversation with an Uber driver who asked her if she would ever consider bleaching her skin. She wrote, “I was (asked by) my Uber driver the other day, he said, ‘Don’t take this offensive but if you were given 10 thousand dollars would you bleach your skin for that amount?’

She said, “I couldn’t even respond I started laughing so hard. (Then) He said, ‘So that’s a no’ and I was like hell to the f*king yeah [that’s] no. Why on earth would I ever bleach this beautiful melanin God [blessed] me with. (Then) he said, ‘so you look at it as a blessing?’ You won’t believe the kind of questions I get and the kind of looks I get for having this skin.”
